Fly fishing in Banff with friendly fly fishing guide Big Jim
Dykstra could never be easier. Try out my fine collection of G. Loomis fly rods.
From six foot six three weights to fourteen foot spey fly fishing rods. The six foot six
three weight is a wild bucking broncaroo I tell you. I've got a couple of nice
ultra-light four weights too. A battle royal with every fish. For nymphing I
prefer to use my collection of five weight fly fishing rods to give us a little
more command of the line. Sometimes the conditions of the Bow River near Banff
requires the use of my ten foot long strike indicator rods employing the
imfamous "chuck and duck" cast. Other times the sink-tip line is beneficial and
I like to use a six weight fly fishing rod in that case. Try out some spey casting with my G.
Loomis 10.5, 11, and 14 foot spey fly fishing rods and with one roll of the
wrist watch the line sail and I mean sail out there. Cast them all in one day on
the mighty Bow River near Banff Alberta Canada.
The Bow River near Banff Alberta Canada has been designated catch and release for more then eight years now and the fish have responded. No stocked fish here. All wild trout. This year myself and a client have already landed and photographed a 32 inch brown trout. So there is a real chance at catching some true Hawgs in my home stretch of water.
Some days it's more productive to spin fish. What a delight it is to battle fish on my G. Loomis six foot six ultra light spin poles. Coupled with titanium eight ball-bearing reels, it really is the Caddy of spin rod and reel combos. I also employ the use of some nine foot nine and ten foot ultra-light summer steelhead poles. Very sensitive and they can really fire the lures out there a long way. Hero casts they call them I think.
For smaller children I have found the push button rods and reels to be the ticket. I had one young five year old gentleman named Jacob give his dad the business with the push button Johnston Century five fish to two. Asked if I could come over for supper Jacob did, he was so glad about his catch. I give them a whirl myself on occasion and it's a trip down memory lane each time. Events long forgotten, seem to spring to mind with every zing and whirr of the line.
Most days we stop at the Jk Bakery, finest bakery in the land and also right beside the fishing license store, and order up some ala carte food. While that's being prepared we get the fishing licenses on the go and put our waders on. Then just a short drive and into the wild blue waters we go. Trout, trout and more trout, so many trout you could probably catch fish blind-folded. So let's go fishing on the mighty fishy Bow River and adjacent blue waters near Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.
